The Malcolm Davey Awards

Dedicated to the memory of Malcolm Davey, former Vice-President of the Alvis Owner Club, this award was a judged competition where apprentices devised and fabricated a specialist tool to help with their careers.

The prize, in cooperation with Snap-On Industries, was a £1,700 full imperial tool-chest.

It was presented at the Classic Motor Show at the N.E.C. with the Late Sir Stirling Moss OBE among the presenters. The award ran from 2016 to 2017.

Joe Mellor's winning entry...
Joe’s winning entry was a lever type Valve Spring Compressor based on the principle of a ‘Butlers Friend’, using the overhead rocker shaft as a fulcrum. It was specifically designed to work on Alvis engines of the ‘cluster valve spring’ variety.

 

The prize - £1,700 worth of Snap-On tools.
